The Mitsubishi Group is Japan's largest financial holding company, and one of the largest in the world.
It was founded in the mid-nineteenth century by a family of Japanese landowners. The birth of the Mitsubishi brand dates back to 1875 as a shipbuilding company, and its history begins with Yataro Iwasaki.
It is currently present in many industrial sectors, including metallurgy (Mitsubishi Heavy Industries), petrochemical (Nippon Oil), fine chemicals (Mitsubishi Chemical), glass processing (Asahi Glass), automobile production (Mitsubishi Motors Corporation ), shipbuilding, aeronautics, electronics (Mitsubishi Electric) and agri-food (Kirin Brewery). It is also present in the real estate sector with Mitsubishi Real Estate, and is a major shareholder of some of the country's major banks.
